Project Title
Your Ticket to Success: Excel in Accounting Subject and Planning for Future Endeavours.
Pre-Planning Stage
On March 26th, 2021, I had my first meeting with Dr. Zalfa and the others from Group 6. We are required to conduct an online program that is related to our faculty program, Accounting under the Social Engagement course. At first, when I heard the word ‘program’, I was very anxious about it and had doubts about it. This subject involves engagement with the community and I overthink how am I going to conduct a program as I have never conducted a single program. Besides, having to work in a team with people that I am not familiar with is also scary. After the first meeting with Dr. Zalfa, we got into groups. I am grouped with 5 team members including myself and we introduced ourselves. My team members are Nurin, Aqila, Fatin, and Haniem. I was so happy because we immediately clicked. Besides, I made new friends with other small groups as well like Rosshenie, Shafirah, and others.
Planning Stage
I was the leader in the group and I felt a huge responsibility in moving the group. At first, our progress was a bit slow as the process was quite blurry. I felt that I was not contributing that much as I had no ideas on how to engage with the community. Nevertheless, my team members had many great ideas. Despite all that, Dr. Zalfa managed to engage first with us. We had meetings with Dr. Zalfa every week on Friday to update on our progress. Throughout those weeks, Dr. Zalfa has helped us out numerous times by amending our works. I volunteered to decorate our promotional poster and the e-certificate template. My experience in decorating things digitally is a bit shallow hence there's still more improvement needed. I decorated 2 to 3 posters and it was mainly rejected by Dr. Zalfa because the information displayed was not eye-catching. Dr. Zalfa gave us a lot of input to revise our poster which I am thankful for the constructive feedback. For the fourth poster, I had help from my teammates and finally, Dr. approved our poster. From this, I noticed that I should not put everything on my shoulders, instead should ask for opinions and help from my friends. My team members are the best! They helped me a lot throughout the preparation and during the program. I always considered them as leaders in the group because they know how to bring themself. We held many discussions to brainstorm more ideas to create more content for the program. I hope that after Covid settles down, I get to meet up with them.

During the program, we faced technical difficulties during the Kahoot session. My team members’ and my Internet connection on that day was not playing its role. I was a moderator so it is my responsibility to keep the program running. While my team members handle the issue, I tried to come up with a topic to maintain the flow of the program. It was very difficult to think about what topics to talk about in engaging with the participants. That is one of the challenges that I faced and I managed to overcome it by sharing my own experience in pursuing accounting. It was a spontaneous sharing session. But from this, I managed to overcome the feeling of anxiety and be more confident. From the picture below, it was obvious that I was trying to act cool and it was nerve-wracking as it was not scripted hahahaha
Besides that, the participation from the participants was a bit slow at first as they were very shy. I totally understand them hahaha because I would also be like them. Nevertheless, towards the end, the participation is starting to develop after the guest speaker’s session. We decided to invite a guest speaker to create a more exciting environment in engaging with the participants. I immediately thought of my good friend, Nurin Hannah who scored her way through her studies in accounting and is studying abroad. From that, I thought that it would be a great opportunity to invite her to share her experiences and views on the accounting field. It was totally worth it because the atmosphere at that time was very interesting as the participants were really immersed in Nurin Hannah’s sharing session. Even my team members and I were in awe.
Post-Event
After the event ended, we had a photography session among ourselves posing goofily.
The feedback from the participants was very heartwarming. I hope that they benefited from the program and implemented it for their future endeavors. All in all, I was very happy that I managed to pull this program from scratch with the help of my friends and Dr. Zalfa. We had a presentation day where all of the groups in Group 6 presented their programs. I was excited and nervous at the same time because I get to see what other groups are doing for their program and my team members and I will also have to present our part. In the end, the presentation day was a meaningful experience because not only we got to hear the creative ideas from the other groups but also Dr. Zalfa commented on our progress and journey.
From there, I can see that I am growing to perform better and become a better communicator, especially as a leader. I am very grateful that Universiti Malaya created the Social Engagement course because this can be the first step for me to start to venture into joining other university programs. Besides, I want to be more active in curricular activities instead of only focusing on my studies.
Thank you Dr. Zalfa and all my friends! 💕
